Queensland Voices: Kate Bushell & She’s on Q Team, QSuper

Kate Bushell, Senior Manager QSuper, founded She’s on Q in 2017 as a key platform to help more women across Queensland shape a secure financial future for themselves. Women comprise Kate Bushell She's on Q QSupertwo thirds of QSuper’s membership, so a team of enthusiastic women at QSuper believed they could do more give Queensland women access to information, education and general advice to improve their financial wellbeing.

In Australia today, 1 in 3 women retire without any superannuation. Women are less likely to achieve financial security in retirement than men due to a range of factors including workforce participation, gender salary disparities, and differences in financial education and investment preferences.

She’s on Q is a programme of networking opportunities that deliver financial empowerment for women by boosting their knowledge and confidence. The events provide real-world actionable content that is delivered by approachable and relatable role models. Because it’s practical, this leads to behavioural change and actions, big or small.

By sharing real stories and experiences, She’s on Q events have helped connect women across different walks of life and initiated conversations that have helped women take control of their careers, finances and overall wellbeing. With the right information, women have told us they feel empowered to make informed decisions that impact their financial security and sense of wellbeing.

For over 100 years, QSuper has been looking after the people who look after Queensland. We manage the superannuation savings of the Queensland doctors, teachers, ambulance officers, nurses, firefighters and police officers who work so hard to take care of communities across Queensland.

I love Queensland for its people. I fell in love with this state when I travelled here 7 years ago, and I’ve never looked back. Queensland people are unlike those in most other states as relationships truly matter, and the people are always friendly, warm and supportive.

To create a community of women who inspire each other to take meaningful action that impact their lives and financial wellbeing. Financial Security and empowerment can mean different things to different people.

Most women are eager to learn more and we know that the right advice and information at the right moment can transform lives. Through She’s on Q, our vision is to directly influence Queensland women’s attitudes and motivate them to take meaningful actions (big or small) in managing their careers, finances and wellbeing, regardless of their unique financial situation or life stage.

Open the envelopes! The resounding advice for women looking to control their finances and financial wellbeing is know your finances. Women need to be aware of how much they earn, how much they spend, where their money is going and how to make it grow. It is important for women to let go of their fear of not having enough or not knowing enough about their finances, and take steps to take control of their financial wellbeing

Queensland is built by amazing Queenslanders. Every day women in Queensland are taking action to make Queensland safer for women, to help women’s health and wellbeing, to build women’s economic security and to increase women’s participation in the workforce and female leadership. Femeconomy is showcasing 20 women from across Queensland that are delivering the Queensland Government’s Women’s Strategy.
