Queensland Voices: Belinda-Jane Dolan, CEO, Clariti Group

Belinda-Jane Dolan, CEO of award winning Clariti Group, is on a mission to positively impact the lives of one million and one people globally. As a child, Belinda was born into disadvantage and disability. Now, she is aiming to be one of the first Australian and Queensland women to Climb each of the 7 highest Summits on each continent, and cross the North and South Pole. She has taken a lead to reduce the under representation of women in senior leadership roles and on Boards.

Clariti Group has worked in some of the most remote regions of Australia (Aurukun, Cherbourg, Normanton, Doomagee, Kowanyama and Pormpuraaw, Woorabinda and Yarrabah) with some of the most marginalised groups of people to build capacity and leadership. Across 68 remote regions, Belinda and her team have worked with thousands of individuals over the last 6 years to empower women and men, reduce economic hardships and associated sociocultural factors.

Projects have included Mental Health programs aimed at reducing rates of suicide in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, and the Remote Schools Attendance Strategy, empowering local communities, elders and families to increase school participation.

MOST PROUD OF

My team and the lives they have positively impacted, and in some cases saved, both here in Queensland, throughout Australia and on their charitable projects globally. My sisters, who lost their parents tragically at a young age, and had to learn to work hard to survive.

Standing up in the most extreme circumstances, never giving up, and being a role model for my sisters, niece and other women. I’m proud to be a Queenslander giving back, serving others and making a difference.

WHY I LOVE QUEENSLAND

As a woman who has come from significant disadvantage, I appreciate everything the beautiful sunshine state of Queensland has given me, my family and team. The life we had always dreamed of, a life that I never thought possible. After losing my Mom to breast cancer, Queensland became home and a safe haven to build a life.

MY VISION FOR QUEENSLAND

To see more Queensland women in national and international arenas, and grow the number of women on Boards and Senior Leadership roles. To give back and to offer more opportunities locally as I grow my business, including building the number of opportunities for young and up and coming female leaders.

That we create safer communities by empowering more women both psychologically and economically.

ADVICE FOR QUEENSLAND WOMEN

Never give up because ANYTHING is possible. During my lifetime there were many times when as a female doors were closed, when I was told I would never walk again, never be successful because I was a woman, or because I came from a disadvantaged background. I dreamed big, aimed high and never gave up.

FEMECONOMY HAS PARTNERED WITH THE QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT’S OFFICE FOR WOMEN TO SHOWCASE QUEENSLAND WOMEN WHO ARE STRIVING TO CREATE GENDER EQUALITY.

Queensland is built by amazing Queenslanders. Every day women in Queensland are taking action to make Queensland safer for women, to help women’s health and wellbeing, to build women’s economic security and to increase women’s participation in the workforce and female leadership. Femeconomy is showcasing 20 women from across Queensland that are delivering the Queensland Government’s Women’s Strategy.
