Kathy Rhodes is a business and marketing strategist from Sydney. Her purpose is to bring out the gold in ideas and people. Early in her career she did this for corporations like ANZ, ING, Zurich, and HP; fast food chain Mad Mex; and a range of luxury brands. Today, she does this for thought leaders so they can become world-changers through Thought Alchemists.
WORLD CHANGERS
How do you help thought leaders to scale their impact?
I see opportunities for thought leaders they don’t. Often, it’s because they don’t understand their value. Sometimes it’s because they aren’t connected to the right people or are saying yes to things they shouldn’t. When you are focussed and deliberate about how you spend your time and money, it’s easy to scale impact and grow revenue. For example, by simply honing her sales process, I helped one thought leader generate an additional $500K in less than 6 months.
ESCAPING CORPORATE
What’s important to know before exiting corporate to follow your passion?
Before you become a fellow escapee, it’s essential you are clear on your unique take on the world and why it matters. Know who your competitors are and what your future customers or clients need to hear. When you do this, you’re able to position your value in powerful and commercially viable ways. Commit to building a strong network of role models, supporters, and friends who can introduce you to clients and partnerships when the time is right.
And finally, ask for help from those who have gone before you.
PAID SPEAKING
What are the steps to becoming a paid speaker?
In my work with thought leaders, the goal is not just to get paid, but to get paid well.
To get started, invest in creating helpful and relevant content for your target audiences so when they hear you speak, it’s content worth paying for. Ask yourself: Would I pay to listen to me?
Once you’ve nailed your message and can articulate your value, paid opportunities will follow. Expect to be paid $2-$3K per engagement to begin with.
SCALING UP
How can successful thought leaders take it to the next level?
When you’ve mastered showing up for yourself (which I highly recommend you do), show up where it matters for people who matter (your audience). It’s important to be so attuned with what your audience needs and be aware of how you can offer value to them and improve their lives through your thought leadership practice. Once you’ve done this, you can expand internationally, serve new sections of the market and collaborate with others.
