Emma Heuston, Founder & Principal Lawyer, Ready to Boss Legal: Female Leader Conversations

Emma Heuston is a lawyer, entrepreneur, writer and Founder and Director of the virtual law firm, Ready to Boss Legal. Emma has been a lawyer for 22 years and is passionate about providing online business owners, especially women, with access to the legal and mentoring help they need to boss with confidence.

Why did you start Ready to Boss Legal?

I started working remotely as a partner in a law firm after moving from Sydney to far northern NSW, and the more I worked with women who were also struggling with juggling work, home, and life, the more I knew that I wanted to help them build their own empires. While we started as The Remote Expert, we re-branded to Ready to Boss Legal, because that is what we help women do, get ready to boss.

How does Ready to Boss Legal help online businesses?

Ready to Boss Legal is a virtual law firm for female business owners with an online presence. Our purpose is to assist in building legal foundations to help women protect and grow their business. We believe that confidence and knowledge of the legal aspects of a business and how to protect their business legally is crucial to business success.

We help our clients achieve this with a blend of legal information and legal services. Clients can shop our ready to buy, lawyer drafted templates and access masterclasses and detailed articles on our site with practical information or access a personalised, customised and specialist legal service, or a blend of both!

What are the top legal risks for online business?

Our clients commonly face the following
issues:

  • Website not legally compliant
  • Working for free (scope creep)
  • Protection of their intellectual property (copycats)
  • Business collabs gone rogue

What’s your advice to women considering starting an online business?

Do yourself a favour and sit down to plan and get advice. It is common for us to sit down with a client and create a business journey map with them. While we might only do website terms and a client agreement first up, we will have planned with them what else they need to do and when and how that needs to be done as their business grows.

ABOUT FEMECONOMY

Choose female led brands. Create gender equality.

Femeconomy educates consumers, business owners and budget owners on how their purchasing decisions can create gender equality.

Femeconomy identifies and amplifies companies that have at least 30% women on the Board of Directors or are 50% female owned.

Companies with female leaders are more likely to have workplace flexibility and less likely to have a gender pay gap, so they are helping to create gender equality for their employees and communities.
